Shirts @ Style Starts Here

paisley.jpgWell-made and inexpensive. When clothes fit that description, what more do you need to say?

Usually nothing. But in the case of Simone Stern’s “Style Starts Here” collection, that’s only the beginning. Let’s begin at that beginning. This paisley shirt, for instance (as usual, do please click the photos for a more detailed version). To make such a complex pattern work on a second life garment is outrageously ambitious: muted contrasts, shading and, on top of all that, seam-matching. As in a real life shirt, it’s not possible to make the pattern continuous across seams, but some shirts’ seams will work while others won’t and, of course, the shading and wrinkles must look consistent across the parts. There is no way that this shirt should work as well as it does. But it does. For £50. Every shirt I’ll show you is £50. (more…)

New: Men’s casuals @ Simone! Design

striped_sweater_jacket.jpgIf you haven’t yet seen any of Simone Stern’s new styles for men, it’s time for a quick trip over to Simone! Design.  She has some fun casual outfits at great prices that won’t wreck your budget!  My personal favorite is this sweater and jacket set, which comes with striped and plain sweaters, black jacket, and jeans.  The set actually comes with two pairs of jeans, one marked “plain” and another marked “striped.”  Why is this, you may wonder?  This is because Simone has done something really clever.  The sweaters are worn on the shirt layer, which ordinarily would mean it looks like the sweater is tucked into your pants.  However, the jeans in this set include an extension of the sweater pattern at the top.  This means you can get the look of wearing a long jacket-style sweater under the jacket!  I live for stuff like this.  :D  It also means that you can’t really pair these jeans with other tops you may have, but at these prices I consider that a non-issue.
