Ryan : I love wearing sandals. I grew up in the U.S. Midwest, not exactly a farmboy, but still I spent more than my share of time running around barefoot. Even as an adult, at the end of my workday, the first thing that happens once I get home is the shoes come off. All summer long, I’m looking for any excuse not to wear shoes. For me, sandals are the perfect solution–they can complement any look, from completely casual to somewhat dressy. Even if I can’t be lounging on a balmy patio, awaiting the arrival of companions bearing frosty tropical drinks, my feet may well think that I am. I’ll wear sandals with pretty much anything (although, hmm, I have yet to try them with a tux). In fact, I sometimes get crap for wearing sandals when others find it stylistically inappropriate. They’re entitled to their opinions, of course, even when they’re wrong.

You only have to glance once at the Linden template maps for textures to understand why it is that shoes, like skins, tend to be more expensive than shirts, jackets, trousers or even whole suits. A few names have become legendary for their mastery of the challenging art form of the humble shoe. Today we’ll look at the work of two designers. The first one is the legendary Fallingwater Cellardoor of Shiny Things, who has recently released a wonderful new line of shoes called Murphys. The second is someone you are far less likely to have heard of.
It’s a new name in shoe design, though it hasn’t exactly risen overnight. Perfect Tomorrow so far has only one basic design for men although it’s available in a huge variety of colours. When I first visited the shop a month or so ago, there were no demos available, though copies of the sculpted prim numbers were out on display. That has changed now and when I contacted Perfect Tomorrow about this review, I encountered a one-person band who had just overhauled the sizing of the whole product range completely and was now working through the customer list, sending each person updated versions of the shoes that they’d bought. The new versions are worth writing home about.
Here’s the bad news: I think you’re going to want to buy both designers’ shoes. Let me tell you why.

I don’t know about where you live, but October was hot where I live. It didn’t feel like autumn in any way. Now that it’s November (either finally or how did that happen so quickly? depending on your perspective), and starting to cool down a bit, it’s time to think about dressing for fall. I love this time of year–digging deep into the dresser’s biggest drawer for sweaters is one of my favorite things.
The new “Autumn” set by swaffette Firely of SF Design is destined to be another of my favorite things this season. If you look good and feel good in earth tones, take a look and give it your serious consideration. Its contrasting textures are beautifully coordinated, and the different clothing items layer flexibly for a variety of looks suitable for different levels of “dressiness.” (more…)

New this week at Shiny Things are the “Tritone” sculpted-prim men’s loafers, by designer Fallingwater Cellardoor. Now, my only beef with Fallingwater (and she knows this, I’m sure) is that I wish she created more shoes and accessories for us men! However, I cannot hold against her the work she does on behalf of the women of SL–those designs are things of beauty and joys to behold, and I’m willing to bet that they fulfill her creatively. Hmm, maybe I should give some more thought to that female avie…if it means I can have more shoes.Â
Nah, probably not. In any event, right now I’m more than happy, I’m delighted with these casual slip-ons. Sleek, stylish and available in a variety of colors and patterns, they’re perfect for dressing up your favorite jeans or khakis–a great going-out alternative to sneakers or deck shoes. (more…)

Meditations in Midnight.
Breathe, chill, relax, switch to decaf…(ignore that last one O_x)…
Even in Second Life, a body can get a little stressed out. Between lag, hardware issues, script bugs, animation quirks, and other grid gremlins, even a saint could get a complex. Hence the above reminder. Much like RL, I find myself needing the occasional prompt (ok—a large thermonuclear device detonated on my head) to focus on what’s really important.
What does this little jaunt through the slightly sleep deprived corriders of my pixelated brain have to do with fashion, one might inquire. Just this…when I take the time to make myself comfortable in SL, like RL, I find myself encouraged to relax. It’s odd I realize but somehow it works. All right, I admit, I’m probably the only av that changes into pjs before returning my consciousness to RL (yeah Ryan, I’m nucking futz but you knew that already) but it is part of my personality. So there. XP (more…)

Like the song says… “Working for the weekend…”
This outfit, which I’m calling The Weekender, is simply something I’d throw on without really worrying about **gasp!** having to look good. Although, the finished result shows anything but. Okay, I admit it. I’m guilty of the crime of being vain…XD
It’s one of those types of getups where the usual Jeans + Tee can be redone with a twist. More than the usual casual sets that one finds in either RL or SL, part of the look depends on what one makes of it. This look wouldn’t be out of place at a club or just cruising along doing nothing. (more…)

Someone once said that clothes make the man…
My name is MaxmillianDArgent Ferraris. My occupation, newest connoisseur of Second Life Fashion. My passion, putting it together and making it real…so to speak. My objective is to put together a wardrobe any av would be proud of. Professional, casual, romantic, urban, cyber, goth…whatever theme draws my attention…if I like it, I’ll get it and show it off. In each post, I’ll be including accessories, hair, and the occasional props with each outfit. I’ll also be listing the designers, stores, and prices for everything I’m wearing. Gotta do that publicity thing! X D
Each outfit can be either a mix/match of things from different designers or a set from a single artist. Depends on my mood naturally… (more…)

Any day the guys get new shoes from designer Fallingwater Cellardoor of Shiny Things, it’s a good day. Any day I find great new sandals to add to the wardrobe, it’s a good day. Hey, I think this is going somewhere! Fallingwater’s just-out Boho Sandals are a great addition to my SL shoe collection, which is fast approaching Imelda proportions.  It’s definitely a good day.Â
Unsurprisingly, the design on these sandals is gorgeous, with beautiful embossed leather construction enhanced by gleaming metal accents. Fallingwater has previously included smaller and larger sizes with her men’s shoes for ease of fitting, but with these sandals she’s really gone the extra mile. No fewer than five different versions are included, fitted for foot sizes 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40. Hot on the heels (ooh, sorry!) of her Flare Oxfords for women, designer Fallingwater Cellardoor has released a version for us guys! With a chunky flared sole and heel, flexi ribbon laces, and attitude to spare, the Men’s Flare Oxford Shoes are perfect for wearing with your funkier stuff or funking up your more conventional clothes.
The construction is quality from toe to heel–check out the natural-looking laces and the shiny grommets, including the ones on the side air vents (nobody wants sweaty feet, after all, and even 100% cotton socks only go so far). You see them here in classic black, because black is the new black. (more…)

Designer Fallingwater Cellardoor of Shiny Things is the creator of easily some of the finest, most beautiful shoes in SL for both men and women. She has also designed a variety of amazing jewelry, purses and other accessories for the ladies, and I’m crazy about her Compass Bag. This is (I believe) her first jewelry design for men, and it’s a stunner. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me before she reads this! ;) Her new Belou necklace features an intricate design of darkly shining metalwork and hand-painted beads strung on a black leather thong. The detailing on the beads is gorgeous, with delicate ribbons in muted blues and greys winding around cylindrical and disc-shaped ceramic beads. This is a strong and handsome piece, decidedly masculine, beautiful but not “pretty.” The thoughtful design of the neckpiece allows for a perfect fit with a minimum of adjustment and fuss. (more…)

I went to check out Fallingwater Cellardoor’s new sim, Shiny Falls, on it’s opening day a short while ago, and was talking with her when she asked me if I had any ideas on what kind of men’s shoes she should odo next. I immediately thought “dress shoes” - something I can wear with a suit, but also with jeans or khakis. Well, just a few days later she started sending me prototypes and now, here they are.
Beautifully crafted of course from the undisputable queen of SL shoes, with just the right amount of shine and raised seams to give them a more defined formal look. The shiny silver buckle adds a slightly edgy touch, but is still elegant to wear with your best suits.
I also hinted to her that she should include some matching socks to go with these as a public service, since I see so many of you fellas out there with out socks on, and that hideous flesh color on the bottom of your pants.
Updated: These are out now, available in black and brown. They are available on her new sim, Shiny Things at Shiny Falls.

The always lovely, always talented Fallingwater Cellardoor has once again produced a must have item (isn’t everything she does “must have?”). This time it is in the form of a leather messenger bag styled for men.
She has a smaller woman’s version, but these bags have a real masculine feel with thick straps, solid metal parts, and a tough looking, beat up leather texture. The compass rose design gives it that worldly, renaissance man quality.
The bag has a built in arm pose which can be toggled with a click, and is compatible with most AO’s.
You can pick it up in 3 colors: black, brown, and reddish at Shiny Things in Hotei.

If you liked Fallingwater Cellardoor’s Old Shoes, then check out this tall boot version just released today. I got a copy of these a couple of weeks ago and like the Old Shoes, the textures are very realistic, looking every bit liked scuffed leather. The prim buckle detail is very rich, and every edge and seam is carefully planned.
These boots honestly don’t work with just jeans and a t-shirt for the most part (something Fallingwater agrees with so it’s not a dis of the product). The delay in the release was to time it with DoC Eldritch’s new outfit Chapter 1. Fallingwater describes the outfit as “piratey” while DoC thinks it has more of a Robin Hood feel.
I haven’t written much about DE Designs here as it typically isn’t my style, but there is no doubt that DoC is talented and creates very creative and high quality designs.
The boots come n black and brown and are no modify/copy/no transfer. A demo version is available, and they cost L$450 to buy. They can be found at Shiny Things in Hotei.
The Chapter 1 outfit is available for men and women and can be found at DE Designs.

I was puttering around my plot this afternoon when the always awesome message appeared: “Fallingwater Cellardoor has given you…” It was an advance copy of her new Old Shoes. Since her Striped Oxfords are my favorite shoes, I threw these on right away and it’s now a tie for favorite shoe.
The texture design on these is absolutely amazing. The scuff marks on the toes, and the detail on the heel are very lifelike. There is also a prim buckle that sets everything off with a touch of metal.
Pop on down to Shiny Things in Hotei and get these in Black, Brown, and Burgundy,

OK these shoes by Shiny Things aren’t really new, but I had to post for 2 reasons.
One, these are pretty much my favorite shoes. I have all the colors (Sand, Brown, Black, and Blue) and they go with everything. There are so few good casual shoes for men, and these are top notch. The construction and texturing is the best there is, but coming from Fallingwater Cellardoor (the maker of oodles of women’s shoes - make more for us Fally!), we would expect nothing less.

Two, that’s me in the ad
Get them at Shiny Things jewelry and shoes Hotei (172, 143, 26)
