New: “Dysis” @ RFyre

dysis_full.jpgI wonder what it’s like inside the mind of Raven Pennyfeather? I imagine a vast, dimly lit chamber draped in heavy, dark velvet, with plush carpets underfoot. Great paned windows look out into the starry, starry night like inquisitive eyes. Scattered about are immense wooden chairs, elaborately carved and with deep upholstery, perfect for pausing to reflect on one of the many ideas that flit about quickly, glittering in the dark.

Or maybe this is just Raven’s design studio. It certainly seems that only such a place could possibly be origin to her outrageously elaborate gothic haute couture clothing designs. Her new ensemble for men is called “Dysis,” perhaps named after the Greek goddess of the hour of the sun’s setting. This would seem appropriate, perhaps on more levels than that most immediately obvious. (more…)

New: “Timeless” @ RFyre

timeless_head_to_toe.jpg“Sweeney Todd meets Artful Dodger meets Vogue. You can wear this Whenever.” So says the notecard included with Raven Pennyfeather’s new extravagant ensemble for men, called “Timeless.” Raven has a veritable gift for creating elaborate themed clothing designs that blur the lines of era, style and gender, so I’m inclined to take her at her word on this.

Part Carpathian warlord, part vintage dandy, part bondage master, “Timeless” is not simply appropriate but de rigeur for any number of pastimes, from arguably innocent to highly questionable. As you put it on, and then begin to take layers back off, your racing mind will no doubt envision multitudinous scenarios in which to explore all it has to offer. It is the perfect expression for your more decadent, lustier side. Come, fall into that pool of hedonism with me. (more…)

New: “Eminence” @ RFyre

eminence_cape_full.jpgIt has been with some (not insignificant) jealousy that I have followed the coverage, by other contributors to this blog, of certain elegantly gothic designs by Raven Pennyfeather.  When I saw her new release, “Eminence,” I made an executive decision: it was my turn.  It seemed only fair.  Perhaps it goes without saying that such a task should not be undertaken lightly, but just in case it doesn’t–I say so now with all sincerity.  This is a more than ambitious design effort on Raven’s part, and I think she succeeds admirably.  The challenge I face is that of presenting her work here and making sure that it looks as wonderfully dramatic to you as it did to me.  All in all, it’s not a bad problem to have.  ;) (more…)

A Pretense Triptych

Pretense_2.JPG“Master D’Orsay, the time for delivering has long since past.” D’Orsay’s valet AO’d something of his own creation, wherein he tapped the side of his leg impatiently with his left hand while raising one Spocklike eyebrow. It was a deft piece of script, designed to indicate exasperation, cheek and no small measure of the insolence that invariably comes with familiarity. “We are expected.”

“I am aware, Tiro,” D’Orsay acknowledged with his usual equanimity. The fact was, the drafts the Lady Astarte has commissioned of him were perhaps half complete, and his valet Tiro called him now to an appointment for which he was more than a little underprepared. Tiro’s impatience was just; and their conversation was holed with the vacuum-bell pauses indicative of one who is doing some work offline and ALT-Tab’ing back and forth between World and Word. D’Orsay was, rather guiltily, engaging his deadline pace.

New (at one time): Yen by House of RFyre

*sticks head in* Anyone miss me? No? Ah well.

I had to take an unofficial leave of absence, due to actual paying work. (My God! The horror!) Itellya, when I hit the login button and saw my login still there, it brought tears to my eyes. Ryan, thanks for not kicking me to the curb!

Before I left, I had a couple reviews in the pipeline. They aren’t new anymore, but I like them so much I’m reviewing them anyway. (more…)

New: RFyre’s Tessen: Deadly Intentions Outfit

Rfrye_1.jpgWhat do you get when you cross a Samurai Warrior, a Vampire and an Avatar? Sounds like the beginning of joke, but with the September 21, 2007 release of RFyre’s Tessen clothing, there’s nothing funny about the result.

If you haven’t heard of RFyre, or designer Raven PennyFeather, you might be missing out on some of the finest Goth and Dark wear in SL.

“Tessen” is a Japanese word for an iron fan carried surreptitiously by medieval Japanese Samurai warriors, particularly since wearing a sword in the Emperor’s Palace was a no-no. Warriors seldom liked to go about without their weapons, so the elegant but deadly fan became a tool of destruction for those stepping out of the straight and narrow in Feudal Japan. There is, in fact, an entire martial art centered around fighting with tessen. (more…)
