Day the First at Miskatonic U.

welcome_to_miskatonic.jpgIt was a dark and stormy night when the taxi dropped me off at the high iron gates of Miskatonic University, at Arkham, Massachusetts. The driver seemed nervously distracted and sped away quickly into the darkness after unceremoniously hurling my heavy bags to the curb, but not, I noticed, without first grimacing in apparent annoyance at the paucity of the tip I had given him. I am, after all, a struggling student—now officially so—and as a consequence I must carefully mind my budgetary expenditures. (more…)

New: Lizard-skin jackets @ Pushbutton Industries

barrage_hypoxia_full.jpgbarrage_turned_earth_front.jpgI never know what I’m going to find when I walk into Pushbutton Industries, designer Pushbutton Skolnick’s shop featuring her own highly eclectic clothing and accessory items for all the sexes.  She’s always got something going on, anywhere from decidedly off-the-beaten-path new designs to an entirely revamped shop design and layout, just because she was bored.  New this week at PBI for the guys is this set of jackets Push calls “The Barrage,” available in four colors: Arsenal (grey), Hypoxia (blue), Powder Burn (black), and Turned Earth (brown).

Ryan Darragh: Hey, what is this fabric texture?
Pushbutton Skolnick: Komodo dragon.
Ryan: I was torn between snake and lizard.  Now I know.  Hmm, feels sexy.
Push: It’s like the special sauce.
Ryan: As in, two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions…?
Push: That’s just the stuff they tell you about. (more…)

Free! Bastille Day shirt @ Pushbutton Industries

bastille_day_shirt.jpgIn celebration of Bastille Day (which I know that you all know already is July 14), Pushbutton Skolnick has created the oh so chic, really quite stylish, très French shirt you see here.  As the poster in her shop says, “Le ZOMG!  Le FREE!”  Yup, it’s a freebie.  Push, comment tu es folle!

The shirt is provided in styles for both les hommes and les femmes in the pack–very convenient, n’est-ce pas?  The fabric is nicely textured with no less care than Push puts into the clothing she doesn’t give away for nothing.  You can wear it tucked or untucked with abandon as undershirt, shirt and jacket layers are thoughtfully provided, plus an underwear-layer extension for low-rise pants.  And it’s got the Eiffel Tower on the front, so what more could you want?

Don’t just grab the freebie and run away!–the shop is full of items that could only have come from the mind of Pushbutton Skolnick.  You’re bound to find something you never knew you needed, but now that you’ve seen it you know you can’t live without it.  That’s the thing you should buy.

Available until Sunday, July 15 (no guarantees after that) at Pushbutton Industries (Envy 174, 115, 22).

New: Work shirts @ Pushbutton Industries

last_chance_front.jpgThose of you who have been yearning for more men’s wearables from Pushbutton Skolnick–your dreams have come true.  These work shirts aren’t so much new as newish, as they were actually released before I went on vacation…and returned home to a dead PC, grrr.  But I love ‘em, and you should see ‘em, so screw it.  They make me smile.  :)

last_chance_back.jpgFirst of no particular order we have a shirt apparently lifted right out of the Last Chance Garage employee locker, and formerly property of one Elvis.  Fortunately it’s in pristine condition, with no detectable residual odor.  Double patch pockets, unusual square buttons and a subtly nubby fabric texture make for great realism.  The worn, faded artwork on the back adds some extra interest for the wearer as well as others.  You might not want to change your own oil while wearing this shirt, but it’s nice to know that you could. New: American Trilogy tees @ Pushbutton Industries

cash_front.jpgcash_back.jpgIt takes something to get me to write about tees.  Don’t get me wrong–I’ve posted about some great tees here in the past, and will no doubt do so in the future.  I guess I just look for that “something extra,” whatever it may be, that makes them stand out from the crowd.  Designer Pushbutton Skolnick of Pushbutton Industries (”Quality Fashions for Post-Apocalyptic Lifestyles”) caught my eye the other day with her new “American Trilogy” set of tees, which features strong, beautiful artwork depicting three giants of American music:  Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Willie Nelson.
