Whenever I heard the word “romantic” I am immediately reminded of a scene in the movie “Moonstruck.” You know the scene—where Raymond Capomaggi, still madly in love with his wife Rita after many years together and apparently all but undone by the lovers’ moon that seems to be influencing everyone in sight, sings aloud a snippet of Rogers and Hart’s “Isn’t It Romantic?” Apparently, he was a tiger last night.
One thing we can take away from this delightful moment is that romance is not the exclusive province of the young and beautiful—anyone can be romantic. Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but I think this also suggests that dressing romantically doesn’t just mean lipstick-kissed boxer briefs (not that there’s anything wrong with that)—it can be anything that represents an effort to connect to your significant other and make something special happen for both of you. It’s very much with mixed feelings that I share the following sale announcement.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. SL Time on Friday, 11 January 2008, all items created by Ginny Talamasca, Katterina Dagostino and Devyn Carmichael went on final sale for L$100 each. Permissions for all items are now Modify / No Copy / Transfer. All items will be permanently retired at the conclusion of the sale, which will run for approximately one month, possibly longer if demand permits. (Details are according to entries on the Last Call website.)
Chances are you have heard about the sudden and unexpected passing in late 2007 of one of the two partners who together were Ginny Talamasca. (The formal announcement can be found here.) I don’t think it’s too great an exaggeration to use the phrase “end of an era” in attempting to describe what this means to the SL fashion world. Ginny’s designs for women (those gowns!) were beautiful and distinctive. The clothing lines for men were fascinating, striking and sometimes controversial. It seems difficult to overstate the the importance of Ginny’s contributions.
I claim no special relationship with Ginny, in fact I met him only once, when I chatted with Devyn for about an hour for an interview. What I remember most about our conversation was how passionate he was about the work, how invested in the creative process, and how much fun he was having, even in the midst of the craziness that was the Last Call grand opening. It seems appropriate here to remember, appreciate and celebrate Ginny’s amazing clothing designs. Whether or not you loved or wore all or any, you had to admire not only the items themselves but the care and passion that went into their creation. (more…)

When I first visited the new Moderno menswear shop in the completely redesigned and rebuilt Dazzle sim, I ended up taking home just a few of the many new items and outfits that are available–I’m not sure, but I may have been kind of overwhelmed. Designer Ginny Talamasca (as Devyn Carmichael) has once again produced an extensive line of menswear ranging from casual through dressy to formal, all imaginatively designed and immaculately textured. For those suffering from an unwanted “limp wrist” syndrome, Last Call has concocted an effective Rx guaranteed to stiffen those radiocarpal joints. In a recent release of outdoorsy and street savvy gear designed to stroke your sense of machismo, LC provides you with clothes you can be confident in while chopping wood, whitewater rafting, or simply walking your bull mastiffs through the park in.
Boardwalk (275L). Take yourself off the beaten path with these plaid cargo shorts with toggle-tied prim pockets and vintage flecked t-shirt. A nice casual alternative to classic denim, Boardwalk may be ideal for the frat boy or outdoors man looking to throw back a few beers in the woods.
The tee is offered in untucked and half-tucked versions - the latter adding a nice twist that meets the usual tucked and untucked shirt options at a happy medium. With the screened graphics on its reverse the shirt is reminiscent of a memento picked up in remembrance of one’s travels. The plaid patterning of the long shorts lends itself to an air of sophistication. All-in-all the outfit is created for a look of comfort paired with a carefree style.
Pictured left in original colours, Boardwalk is also available in berry stain, jungle, noticed, steel and ultramarine. (more…)

After months of anticipation and two sneak peaks for Dazzle Girls group members, Ginny Talamasca (a.k.a Devyn Carmichael) opened the doors to Last Call, her updated fashion haus. Prior to Last Call, Ginny designed the hugely successful Dazzle brand which was particularly well-known for its formal dresswear.
The spacious store itself has a department store layout which is divided into six key areas. Though layout signage has been strategically placed throughout, the floorplan is well laid-out. Even without reading the signs shoppers have easy visual and physical access to the various departments. In addition to the primary Femme and Homme sections, Last Call is comprised of “Qismat” (Gorean fashions for men and women), “Vamp” (couture-inspired shoes for the ladies), “Covet” (jewellery and accessories by Lyra Muse; located in each gender-specific section), and “Catharsis” (men’s undergarments and women’s lingerie). Display panels located in the central lobby area feature a selection of female skins which have been themed to reflect the new brand, in addition to gift certificates in denominations of 250L, 500L, 1000L, 2500L, and 5000L. The recent Grand Opening of Last Call by Dazzle Haute Couture was one of the most eagerly anticipated SL fashion/style events in recent memory. Last Call is the new joint fashion venture of Ginny Talamasca/Devyn Carmichael, Starley Thereian and Lyra Muse. I was lucky enough to sit down last week–after some of the craze had died down–with Devyn, Ginny’s alt and designer of the new Last Call menswear line. I think he may have been glad for the opportunity to sit down and relax for a few minutes.
