Since celebrating my first RezDay a little while ago, I’ve been thinking back to those first weeks. It only took a day or two for me to realize that great women’s clothes were easier to find than great men’s clothes. It was then another week or two before I found some men’s clothes that knocked me out. When I praised them out loud, I was rewarded with a conversation with the artist, Keth Mommsen, herself. What an honour to connect with an artist! That garment and the conversation was the beginning of the path that brought me here.
The item in question was Jordan in Charcoal. And even today, if someone forced me to choose my single favourite article of clothing, Jordan would be the first candidate to come to mind and a strong contender to win that title. It is the epitome of what I want in a garment and in Second Life: there’s nothing complicated about it, it’s jacket-layer and skirt-layer, yet it manages to be completely extraordinary in the styling and cut. There are luxurious decorations in gold embroidery and shiny satin on the collar and pockets, yet these are so clearly enhancements to the cut and shape rather than pretentious flashy, blingy add-ons; they belong. Since one round of Valentine’s Day-appropriate ideas seems hardly sufficient, I thought I’d share a few more suggestions with you. Here’s hoping that one or more of these designs will fit into your romantic plans. And remember–sometimes, something you buy for yourself is also a gift for some else…if you do it right.Â
Keth Mommsen’s “James After Hours” (L$150) is part of the “Signature Line” at Eros Designs. It seems to be conceived and presented primarily as an add-on to the James Tuxedo (L$500), but it also stands on its own as great, inexpensive “after-party” formal attire. (more…)

Whenever I heard the word “romantic” I am immediately reminded of a scene in the movie “Moonstruck.” You know the scene—where Raymond Capomaggi, still madly in love with his wife Rita after many years together and apparently all but undone by the lovers’ moon that seems to be influencing everyone in sight, sings aloud a snippet of Rogers and Hart’s “Isn’t It Romantic?” Apparently, he was a tiger last night.
One thing we can take away from this delightful moment is that romance is not the exclusive province of the young and beautiful—anyone can be romantic. Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but I think this also suggests that dressing romantically doesn’t just mean lipstick-kissed boxer briefs (not that there’s anything wrong with that)—it can be anything that represents an effort to connect to your significant other and make something special happen for both of you. And now for something completely different. (If the voice you heard in your head just now belongs to John Cleese, you’re my kind of people.) Several weeks back, I bought designer Keth Mommsen’s “Baron” formal suit at her shop, Eros Designs. I loved it, wore it to a partnership celebration, got all kinds of compliments, and somehow managed not to review it. I am attempting to correct that oversight here and now by featuring Keth’s new men’s tux, called “Merlot,” which I think I like even better! This beautiful tux features shiny silk lapels, elaborate embroidery, and a gorgeous full-length formal jacket (moddable for length). Here I am wearing the tab collar shirt with the included black-and-gold vest that matches the coat. Other vest/pants sets are available separately in bronze, red, blue and ivory. I’m not an expert on clothing styles throughout history, but to me this formal suit has a kind of fantasy-Edwardian feel–perhaps not entirely authentic to any particular period, but definitely a vintage vibe.
