Remember me? For the few of you who do.. no I didn’t die. I’ve just been very busy with RL and then “relaxed” a bit with a week of summer vacation. My vacation isn’t quite over yet, but I felt that I had to cover some freebies that might disappear soon. My laptop’s onboard graphics aren’t good enough SL so I snuck onto a friend’s machine to install SL to snap a few pics for this post. Thus, this post is brought to you by my friend with no desktop password
Anyway, a long time ago I said that I couldn’t buy fancy clothes cuz I’m poor. Well, now a good number of those rich stores have freebies all in one spot: KMADD Enterprise. KMADD had a lot of gifts out from their opening, which disappeared a lil while back, before I could cover them (I hadn’t started blogging when they disappeared). Its not all bad though, because they replaced them with different gifts from a handful of the KMADD stores, including Tonic, Tango NY, Endeavor, Indigo, Redgrave, Mechanism, Mhaijik Things, SF Design, and of course MADesigns. The weather where I live in RL has been what might be called “unseasonably warm”–I think it was supposed to be 85F today, and it’s still winter, at least technically, for another couple of weeks. Just so you’ll know, when I’m dressing more realistically for SL (as opposed to indulging my steampunk fetish or trying out other fantasy wear), I tend to lean toward things that would be appropriate for the current RL season and weather where I am. Given the recent uptick in temperatures, I was happy to see the new Clash Shorts by serjordan Bonetto of Emery. These are crisply textured and very casual, with plenty of folds and wrinkles–why iron if you’re just going hiking? Rolled cuffs add some dimension, and the prim side pockets have interesting tab-and-buckle detailing. You can get them in four subtle colors: Blue, Brown, Green, and Grey. Permissions are Modify / No Copy / Transfer. L$100 a pair at Emery (Quest III 155, 31, 22). Due to a massive power outage in my building I was unable to access the internet. After going through the five stages of grieving (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) I decided not to stare at my blank computer screen and went out to enjoy the Canada Day atmosphere and celebrations across the city. Canadians and Americans, please enjoy your festivities.
And now on to fashion. As always, if you have your ear to the ground and stumble across a really great designer please send me an IM. Please note that for the month of July I’m taking a break from this weekly column.
Casa Del Shai. A follow up to the suave elegance of last week’s Barong Tagalogs with a westernized twist in the Amorsolo and Luna suits. The traditional Filipino shirts have been paired with a suit jacket that has been embroidered/screen printed on the back panel and a crisp pair of matching slacks. The ensemble sells @ 600L and can be purchased in Deco (112, 150, 30).
Sale @ Indie. Don’t forget to check out Indie Rainbow’s stores in Louise and Sede di Marte before July 5th and take advantage of the liquidation sale on his hand drawn goodies for men and women. Once the sale is over his current collection will be retired.
VR Phlux. Another addition to the swing collection. “Harris” is a sharp tweed suit with shirt and tie, vest with pocket watch detail layer, jacket layer and belted “Hollywood” slacks. The suit sells for 300L at phlux (169, 163, 35).

Although Cat mentioned these new sneaks by Dragontat Zagato in last week’s new fashion digest, they’re so cool I had to give them some extra play. I’m a total sucker for casual shoes anyway, so DT pretty much had me at hello. The new DMC Cruizers come in a positively ridiculous variety of colors and patterns (only a few are pictured here), so you should have no trouble finding a pair that will perfectly express your inner skaterboy. Go on–you know you want to.

Today marks the closing day of Hair Fair and most significant is the association with Bandana Day. Residents are encouraged to take their wigs off and replace them with one of the varying bandana styles, colours and patterns that have been created by the Hair Fair showcase designers. All proceeds from bandana sales go to the Locks of Love children’s charity. Stop by the Hair Fair sims (Hermit Heaven and Prim Paradise) and grab one or more of the 50L bandanas at the three display tables provided.

I wear cargo shorts a lot in RL. I live in Los Angeles, so that means from spring, all through summer, and well into fall. They’re quick, they’re comfortable, all the pockets are handy, and they can be more than reasonably attractive and stylish. I have a lot more clothing options in SL than I do in RL, but still…good cargos are a must. Dragontat Zagato recently released these at Desert Moon Clothiers , and they’re well worth checking out. I’m going to try something different today and let these pictures be worth their allotted thousand words. There’s not much I can say about these tees beyond pointing out how great they are–but they’re from designers whose work we already know, so what more is there to say, really? Just some great new shirt designs I thought you’d like to know about.Â
From Zabitan Assia, “Bushido” (left) and “Kabuki” (below).
Zab’s usual slinky fit and realistic fabric texturing really complement the gorgeous artwork. Available for L$50 each at FORM Gear (Endicott 196, 56, 507).
Photographed entirely on location in Svarga, one of the most beautiful environments in Second Life and a fascinating experiment in building and maintaining a working ecosystem. Drop by today and take the guided tour! Read the rest of this entry »
I was lucky enough to attend the Grand Reopening event at the new Desert Moon Clothiers store this past Friday evening, and what a bash! At some point somebody said, “Designers are just falling out of the sky!” and it was true. It was really great to see members of the SL design community turn out in such numbers to support one of their own in an exciting new venture.
Fortunately I managed to snap a few pictures before the lag became truly lagtastic, so you can see how packed the place was. That’s owner/designer Dragontat Zagato way in the back at left, chatting away. Oh, and me in the middle, cam-shopping madly. I’ve been shopping at Desert Moon since I was still a fairly fresh newbie, and Dragontat Zagato’s jeans, tees and jackets were some of the first clothing I actually bought after discovering his shop in Provincetown.
