I love dressing up and going out. I mean, hey, who doesn’t? There’s just something about looking good that makes you feel good. Plus, as my granny used to say, “Looking nice shows people you care.” If there’s one thing my sisters and I have learned in life it’s that, over time, our granny and our mom are always right.
What does it take to “look good”? Of course there’s no simple way to answer that question, but I’m going to take a fairly traditional approach today and start with a suit. If you’re worried that this means I’m suggesting that “looking good = stuffy,” fear not! And trust me.
Although it’s not a new discovery, I truly feel you just can’t go wrong with the classic Wool Suit by Blaze Columbia. There are certainly plenty of other suits out there, and I own a number of other fine ones, but this is the one I keep coming back to–the lines are clean, the style classic, the detailing meticulous, and the colors to die for. I love this luxurious, softly shiny blue like I love my dog. Well, like I imagine I would love my dog, if I had a dog. When I was growing up, my mother always told me that there’s a difference between being a man and being a gentleman. As with so many things my mother told me, I’ve learned over time that this is true. I think it’s safe to say that this rule applies equally in Second Life. What makes one a gentleman? The term is usually associated today with a certain propriety and courtesy in one’s conduct, but historically also had connotations of belonging to a good family and perhaps even having the right connections. While I can’t help you with your manners or breeding, I can suggest some clothing and accessories without which no gentleman should venture into polite society. Feel free to take these necessarily specific recommendations and implement them more generally in your own gentlemanly pursuits.

Blaze Columbia makes some of the finest dress and formal menswear in Second Life. Blaze’s Power Suit has been one of my favorites since its release in March. Surely no man’s wardrobe inventory is complete without at least two suits by Blaze…one in black, and at least one in another color. Newly released at Blaze Fine Fashions is the classic Wool Suit, now updated with all new fabric textures and sculpted prim pants legs in two different styles: without and without turned cuff. The suit comes in a wide spectrum of 20 different colors; you see me wearing it here in Maple and Sea Green. For those who have been hiding under a rock SL turns 4 years old this week. During all of our careers there have been many ups and downs - n’est-ce pas? - as we all go through our own growing pains in this surreal virtual space.
Within this anniversary week so much is in development or has occurred in the realm of culture relating to the Men’s Second Style blog as well as resident lifestyle in general.
Face of Asia Model Competition. Anyone who can coax those sliders in appearance mode to create a beautiful or handsome Asian shape is encouraged to enter this cultural modeling contest brought to us by the Asian Designers Summit. Contest guidelines can be found at the Women’s Second Style blog or by visiting the Men’s Second Style office, Casa Del Shai, Earthtones Boutique, Muse or Nicky Ree’s Boutique in-world. Face of Asia is open to all residents. Round 1 submissions close June 27, 2007 at midnight SLT.
Nora Body Skins by Sezmra Svarog. Since she teased audiences in mid-April with a sneak peak of her new generation of male skins in development I have been eagerly awaiting the release of her skins. This week, Sezmra displayed a more detailed vision of her skins - each appealing to a different segment of skin consumers: the toned “Hunter” and the svelte “David”. Nora is also offering up some SL4B freebies @ her shop and promises a rehaul of her store and sim.
Second Love Magazine. Tya Fallingbridge and Daphne Molinari announce this week the launch of Second Love Magazine on July 1, 2007. Second Love will be monthly PG publication covering a variety of issues affecting straight and gay residents whether in single, coupled or friendship relationships. The magazine will be accessible in-world and online. The launch party is set for July, 1st @ 7 P.M. SLT game time at Schmooze, Pixel Dreams (12, 146, 21).
As a reminder, if you are aware of any new designers or products that you discover during the week and would like to see included in this segment please look me up and IM me in-world.

Aren’t you tired of jeans sometimes? Jeans-with-skulls, shredded jeans, stained jeans… Let’s go for a change and wear suits! Ooooh, Blaze Columbia released a new range of “power suits” a few weeks ago. Blaze, you obviously know his work if you have some official or formal outfit in your dressing-room-inventory! Let’s try…
Ben looks exactly like Mister Confident in this suit in “Charcoal”… well tailored, with this deliciously velvety fabric… The jacket is built on the jacket and skirt layer, with a light flexi effect, so the jacket is long enough. Look at Ben, he feels so comfy in his outfit, one can feel he can’t wait to start working on this Monday morning!Â
He chose a classic white shirt from four which went with the suit, and a subtle “Mauve” tie from 11 offered. With such a choice, everybody can mix and match and mix and match… ooops… work work work! Ben also appreciates the very detailed buttons, pockets and collar, I can feel it!Â
The shading is just fine. Great job, Mr. Columbia! Oh, by the way, Ben is wearing the last Fim Fisher’s [Fim Fischer's Watches, Chapel Stile (48, 113, 23)]: “Sun’s Gate Watch”. The perfect classy finish for the super neat power suit.

Are you still searching for something perfect to wear to a New Year’s Eve party? Look no further. Not brand new, but new for this holiday season, designer Blaze Columbia has released Holiday Tux Jackets in Royal Maroon, Royal Green and Silver. The lapels are accented with glittery highlights for some holiday glamour, and a prim boutonniere made of rose and poinsettia flowers is included (but not pictured here). I wore the Maroon and Green jackets to various Christmas parties, but the Silver is perfect for ringing in the New Year!
These jackets are based on Blaze’s Regal Tux, just released in October. The Regal Tux features a longer jacket than Blaze’s original Classic Tux, as well as shawl lapels. The extra length on the jacket adds greatly to this tux’s presence, and the satin stripe on the pants has a beautiful shine that really sells the realism. Here I am wearing the Holiday Tux Jacket in Silver with Wing Tip Shirt and Vest also in Silver. Additional shirt/vest combinations are available in a wide variety of colors, so you can customize to get the perfect look.
The Holiday Tux is available for L$600, or in a pack with all three jackets for L$1000. Holiday Tux Jackets only (if you already have the tux) are L$300 each, or L$500 for a pack of all three colors. Available at Blaze Fine Fashions (Triumph 100, 137, 251).

I am going to start out this review by saying, I have not had this much fun with mixing and matching outfits in a long time. I’m not going to admit how much I spent at Blaze’s (though I’m sure you can figure it out if you really want to), but so many of his clothes were just to hard to pass up. Blaze has an overall excellent eye for design and fashion, making him a must stop for men on the lookout for excellent fashion. I was embarrased to admit that this was my first visit to his store, but it certainly won’t be my last.
Where to start is a hard choice as there are so many cool things; so I will start with his newest item, the Regal Tuxedo. Just released this last week, the Regal Tuxedo, in Blaze’s own words, has more “presence” then your typical tux. With it’s striking long jacket this tuxedo is sure to bring compliments in any setting.
Not only is this a stunning tuxedo, but he also created not just your typical black, white, and gray colored tuxedo, he also created the “Special Edition” for all you guys out there who love the goth, dark, red colors this is specially made for you. It includes, (more…)
