When formality is called for

signature_tux_gray_full.jpgIt will come as no surprise to you when I observe the truism that Spring and Summer are, sartorially speaking, quite different from Fall and Winter.  Fabrics are lighter in weight, brighter in color, bolder in pattern, and layering for hot and cold weather are entirely different things.  Even though the climate where I live is overall pretty mild, my RL wardrobe for warm weather is very different than for the cooler seasons.  Temperatures and precipitation aside, Spring and Summer just feel more casual to me–I wear a lot of shorts, linen trousers and casual shirts, and apparently I’ll wear sandals with anything.  But what to do when the sun is blazing down, but the occasion is formal, and a linen suit simply won’t do? Group Gift Skins from Belleza

The Belleza group costs 250L to join now, but the archives currently have not one but two male skins. Miguel will be removed in four days, but Mathieu will be around for at least another week. More skins will be released in the next few weeks, so stick around for even more skins.

[Guest Style Consultant] : Dimitri Shinn

dimitri_09.jpgRyan:  The first thing I noticed about Dimitri is that all of his prim accessories–clothing components, hair, jewelry, glasses–were perfectly fitted.  It’s not that I’m constantly going around and checking out how guys have fitted their prims…well, actually I guess I do in fact do that.  Hey, it’s part of the job!  But almost any guy will let one thing or another slide just a bit, or decide not to lose any sleep over that one last strand of hair.  Not Dimitri.  I’m pretty uptight about fitting hair myself, so I feel his angst.

Dimitri:  Well, I must admit, I was a little nervous when I sent in the application for the guest style consultant.  I have been interested in doing something like this for quite some time and when I saw [Ryan's] post on the web site, I jumped at the opportunity.  I have been in SL about five months now, but ever since the first month I have really been into men’s fashion.  I create my outfits with the intention of being noticed and standing out in a crowd.  I am more of a casual guy when it comes to clothes, but I don’t limit myself to that type of style.  I also love to dabble in other types. Dressing as an Alphamale

Alphamale OutfitLast Sunday, rather early in the morning, I saw a notice for new freebies from Alphamale. The first thought that crossed my mind was, “Finally, took Yelmer long enough … the girls had some freebie lingerie months ago!” I had been waiting a while for this and I was quite excited. Normally, when I get notices from large groups about an item, I tend to wait an hour because fighting for a spot on a full sim isn’t worth it — you can just wait a bit and there will be no one around landing on your head, etc. But after waiting about 30 seconds, I thought “Screw the others, I want that freebie” and teleported in. Luckily for me, not a lot of people are on Sunday mornings and the sim wasn’t too too crowded.

After chatting it up with Yelmer a bit (for the record, Yelmer and Mariska are very nice people — if you see them at the store y’all should say hello) I head home and tried on the new clothes. The wait was definitely worth it. (more…)

Just Another Freebie Sunday

Forgetful OutfitThe best part of being in contact with other freebie bloggers is that they remind you of items you’ve picked up and then totally forgotten. Half the stuff I’m wearing in this post have been available for a long time and been in my inventory for months, till I was reminded of them by seeing others wear them, mention them, or somehow remind me of them.

Gecko Gorilla, the new resident male freebie hunter at Free*Style, reminded me of my Amsterdam free shirt, the subscribomatic joining gift from Hoorenbeek. He wore the blue shirt so I decided I’d wear the brown shirt. I also seem to have a brown sports jacket from Hoorenbeek which I suspect came from either a sale or the subscribomatic, but I’m honestly not sure. If it was from the subscribomatic, I suspect its long been flushed from history. Either way, clicking on the sign still gets you two free shirts. Poking through the history will most definitely get you some notecards and perhaps a sports jacket. (more…)

Review: Izumiya Outfits

Izumiya Outfit 4Izumiya is a wonderful store that I’ve been meaning to post about but never got around to actually doing it. Till now that is. I mentioned one item in an earlier post, but Izumi Homewood’s work deserve so much more attention than that.

Izumiya consists of mutually complementing halves. The second floor is all freebies and dollarbies. There are accessories, shirts, pants, hats(with hair), a suit, and even poses to be found up there. Creamy Cooljoke, of Free*style, and I coincidentally discovered this store at the same time, and she (unlike me) already covered the freebie side of things, esp. the dollarbie suit. So I’ll focus on the other half, the only slightly more expensive first floor.

Downstairs, prices range between 5L and 70L. Items range from pendants, hats, and hair to belts, bags, jackets. My favorite part, however, are the prepackaged outfits.
