Being classy on Second Life in a predominantly hip-hop environment is not easy. I’ve been on the game for well over one year and from the first day to the day I wrote this I can honestly say certain scenes on SL have and will never change. Every group, every clique, every organization has a particular style they represent. In the hip-hop community it’s usually as follows:
1 pair of Nike Uptown styled sneakers (tennis shoes for those of you in the south)
1 pair of baggy jeans
1 sports jersey
1 excessively over-primmed platinum chain and matching earrings
And last but not least, 1 oversized baseball cap representing the local team (more…)

This is Part Two of yesterday’s feature, which I split in two because it was long and complex and overly ambitious, I was tired of working on it, you were tired of waiting for it, and figured I might as well milk it for as much as I can get out of it. Nah, just kidding on the “milk it” thing. But it really did make much more sense as two separate posts. So there (or rather here) you have it.
Geekboy though you may be, nobody will ever mistake you for a 98-lb. weakling in any of sachi Vixen’s new skins–at least, not once you take your shirt off. Here I’m wearing “Justin,” just one of nine new skins in the “Skin Evolution” line. The first thing you’ll notice is that this skin is more muscular than the skins I usually prefer and wear–in fact, it’s positively ripped. This makes for something of a dichotomy on my slimmer shape. I tried a few other shapes from my inventory as well, and the look is indeed more balanced on a more muscular avatar. But there’s no way around the fact that Justin’s is the prettiest face of the nine skins in sachi’s new range. That’s part of why I like Justin so much, but then there’s also the fact that Justin is designed for redheads–so we can be real real redheads, if you know what I mean. Yes, that’s naturally red pubic hair! Eyebrows and head hair match, so nobody will ask what shade you buy. Although I’ve wrapped up my “Winter formals” series, it’s still winter…although, hmm, it’s probably almost 80 degrees today where I live. Even so, a good coat for winter is essential, and more than one is indeed very nice to have. Today I present for your consideration three winter coats, from three different designers, using slightly different methods of construction. Although I wouldn’t call such a small sample a serious overview, it will still give you an idea of “what’s out there” so you can shop with a definite goal in mind.
The Leather Trench by sachi Vixen is deceptively simple in design, but far from conventional. The coat is textured in gorgeous leather that looks slightly distressed but still buttery soft. The coat top is provided on the jacket layer, for proper layering with shirts, and the open front lets you show off a favorite. Sculpted cuffs and rather dashing stand-up collar complete the coat top, and sachi has thoughtfully included the flexi coat bottom in both long and short lengths. Prim attachments are easily moddable for size, although the coat bottoms arrive already at minimum size, so you won’t be able to size these down further by simple stretch. This shouldn’t be a problem for most, as they fit me quite well “out of the box,” and my avie is smaller than average. (more…)

“There is no such thing as a grown-up person, especially if we are talking about men.
“Boys know right from the start that they are blessed with a God-given right to immaturity, though they are often loath to admit it to themselves, or to one another, and never to the girls. They exercise this right whenever they flirt, show off, look in the mirror when someone is watching, try to act cool, impress other boys, make leaps that risk physical or emotional injury, smoke cigarettes, get wet, drink alcoholic beverages, get near automobiles that go fast, and play with children, sharp objects, or girls. …
“Boys are men in a state of grace that is often written off or undervalued as foolishness.”

See its my rezzday on Monday and I had this great and (at least in my head) funny plan to make a post with this title and end up featuring pic of the default male and Ruth. I was then gonna go through all of male freebie outfits as if they were a normal review and then put together a few of them with other freebies to show they actually weren’t that bad.
But, it wasn’t meant to be. The picture that took 15 seconds in Photoshop to make (that is hidden after the cut) wasn’t so funny anymore. Why? Because the Linden Overlords decided to actually put some designer clothes in everyone’s inventory. (more…)

Phew.. Easter is over. Should be good till the next giant holiday.. is it Mother’s Day? Anyway, back to business as normal.. or business I forgot about because I was too busy egg hunting.
Adam n Eve recently opened a new boutique at Genesis for a line of high class fancy clothes. In order to celebrate the opening, sachi Vixen decided to put up two freebies — a polka dot dress for the ladies and polka dot shirt for the guys. Now when I saw the shirt the first thing that came to mind was disco. Unfortunately, I’m a bit too young to remember disco, so I decided to inspire myself with the closest thing I do know to ridiculous dancing and outfits — A Night at the Roxbury. More specifically, my speakers were thumping Haddaway for a half hour as I put this outfit together. (more…)

Calico Creations celebrated its new store this past weekend with a party and group freebie offerings. Here’s the hair style, called Kevin. Its a bit long in front for my tastes, but its a clean style and easy to fit. Its offered as a fatpack with plenty of different colors. I’m wearing Raven for the close up on the side, so you can actually see the prim work and details. I’m wearing Midnight and Dark Brown in the skin pics after the cut. To get it, join the Calico creations group and click on the sign at the store. (more…)

The reason I ended up modeling for Ryan in the first place is that I’m a sucker for suits. So a post about freebie suits was inevitable. First off, Vindi Vindaloo’s white tux is a staple at Free Dove that just about every guy should pick up. But there are other options out there, especially if you’re looking for a more casual, dressy suit instead of a business ensemble.
First up is the Cecile D-Suit from Donmai Frederick, of Back and Forth. As far as I can tell (from what little Japanese I can understand) Cecile is a Japanese catalog retailer. They’ve put out some clothes, based on their actual wares, for guys and girls to dress up and pose outside their build. The D-Suit is the male offering. It consists of a black jacket and pants, three dress shirts, and three prim ties. I really have no complaints with this suit, except that the ties can be a bit annoying to fit. Textures are quite good, layers are used well — it’s a really great freebie. (more…)

In addition to the Santa hats at Chicanery and the Candy Cane at Gaslights Emporium, I found a number of great holiday freebies this year. One man’s no-brainer is another man’s brilliant inspiration, and rather than sit on these selfishly I decided to share just a few of my favorites here. I hit the holiday jackpot, so to speak, at Wilted Rose, where I found this Winter Outfit by Lotti Lusch for just L$1. This really is a complete outfit–the set includes pants, shirt-layer V-neck sweater with prim cuffs, chunky prim shoes, long flexi scarves in red and grey, and fuzzy ear muffs. The sweater, pants and scarves are very nicely done, with realistic fabric textures. The pants in particular look like they feel soft, comfortable and happily worn. If you only spend a single L$ on yourself this holiday season, drop it on this outfit–it’s easily the best quality-and-value bang for your Linden buck. Ladies note–the set includes a women’s version too! (more…)

sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve created one of my favorite themed outfits of the last several months, the Dandy Highwayman. I love its rich color and elaborately detailed design, and oh wow but it’s fun to wear (and show off). Perhaps more subtle and restrained but certainly no less impressive and thoughtfully designed are sachi’s new Hunter Tweeds. If you’ve been trying to find the proper attire for a fox-and-hounds event at your best friend’s country manor, or just weekend outings on horseback with the ladies and gentlemen who lunch, you may need look no further. The herringbone wool fabric is realistically textured, and double black buttons are smart and stylish without calling attention to themselves. The various prim accessories finish the outfit with sophistication and bring it to life. For several months now I’ve been following sachi Vixen’s line of skins for men at Adam n Eve.  This new design, named “Luke,” is her first tintable skin.  She explained in her forum announcement, “I thought it was time I made one to satisfy the customers who have asked me for it. Luke has a modifyable skintone, you can add freckles, you can be darker, lighter, red, blue or green.”  As you can see in this closeup, I’ve tweaked the appropriate slider to give myself a light scattering of freckles.  ”Luke” is available with blond (shown) or dark brow and facial hair options.  As sachi advised me (she knows my preferences so well), on the blond skin you can also adjust ruddiness and other skin tone values to work well for redheads.  I hadn’t realized how accustomed I was to seeing myself with dark eyebrows, even when I was wearing lighter colored hair. I had been invited to a pirate-themed costume party last weekend, so naturally I found myself out shopping for pirate wear, either as a “pre-fab” outfit or individual pieces I could put together. Â I remembered that sachi Vixen had a pirate costume in her clothing section at Adam n Eve, so that was one of my early stops. Â This worked out perfectly as I had been hoping to find something a little less classic or traditional than the red coat, black tricorner hat, eye patch kind of pirate. Â Although the pirate costume I remembered was still available, I also found sachi’s new “Dandy Highwayman” outfit. Â ”Hmm,” I thought, “a highwayman is kind of like a land pirate. Â Either way, he’s taking your gold, yarrr!” Â I agonized for several minutes over what color to choose, decided on blue, clicked to buy and headed home, mission accomplished. Â I realized belatedly that my choice of a highwayman rather than a sea pirate costume meant no saying “Yarrr!” Â I ended up saying it anyway, but I did try to keep it to a minimum. Â ;) (more…)

Following some constructive and pointed feedback from our valued readers the format of this segment as been slightly adjusted. You are really making me work for this. But I enjoy a good challenge. Items have been arranged in categories and descriptions have been made more concise (3 to 5 short sentences each). Due to time and resource constraints designer-created images have been used in the product highlights. If there are any further comments you may have on the changes please feel free to post.
Is it any wonder that this was also a week that was rife with male fashion content? We’ve got a fairly diverse round-up with amongst the categories in addition to two sales. And of course I felt obligated to write about the quality products I saw and/or tried on.

I know what you’re thinking, but no, a hybrid skin isn’t a skin that gets great mileage through a high-tech combination of gasoline engine and electric battery power. You don’t get to use the car-pool lane, either. No, a hybrid skin reflects the design technique of using both photo-sourced elements (photos of actual skin or body details) and hand-painted art to blend it all together. Many feel that a hybrid skin is the best of both worlds. Designer sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve has just released her new line of hybrid skins for men, and the results are definitely worth checking out! Designer sachi Vixen has been hard at work on her new line of male skins, called “Cain.” They are now available at Adam n Eve (Genesis 192, 150, 35), currently in five skin tones with 18 facial hair options, and of course smooth and hairy torsos.
When she got in touch with me, sachi mentioned that she had noticed my red hair and wanted to give me the opportunity to check out these new skins that include red hair options, including corresponding eyebrows and body hair. (The red facial and body hair options are not available in the darkest tan tones.) She said she felt it was time she made available a wider range of options for the guys, which is always nice to hear! (more…)
