Blue in Red
From the Latin desertum – something left waste, the noun the desert comes from a verb, to desert, while the phrase receive your just deserts comes instead from a verb for deserving. And, curiously, the homonym dessert comes from an old French word for clearing the table, which brings us metaphorically back to the feeling of the desert, an area properly cleared and barren.
Maybe you’d be expected to wear jeans out here. Maybe you don’t like to do what’s expected. Here are two alternatives: both blue but not jeans. Just blue deserts and desserts out here in the red desert.
First, beanster Potato’s brand Ducknipple is best known for her informal women’s clothes, but she’s always also done men’s clothes and done them well in her hand-drawn understated way. Her Broek wool trousers are an excellent example.
The texture of the fabric with its lovely herringbone tweed pattern whispers of a hard-wearing and slightly rough-biting garment, while the deliberately cartoony snap-fastened backpockets provide just a touch of mirth to that character. The details on the front are also beautifully and whimsically drawn.
Broek trousers are available in blue, black, brown and grey. In the folder, you’ll find two pants-layer garments, rolled cuff or straight, with cuff prims for each (so important in this time when SLviewer2 refuses to display system pants-layer cuffs with any flare). All items are NoTrans.
And they’re a bargain at L$95 for each colour and even more of a bargain at L$300 for all four. The Ducknipple main store is in its own sim: Ducknipple (63, 156, 24).

Sleeker, and more formal, are Whippet & Buck‘s Dress Trousers. This wonderful dark blue colour is called Outer Space. There’s lots of detail here, if you look close enough you can almost see the individual threads. But it’s the creases in the leg that really pop due to exceptional shading.
Dress Trousers are available in 10 colours. Besides the blue-gray Outer Space, there are: Alabaster (white), Powder (pale blue), Neutral (cream), Fallow (golden beige), Lonestar (red), Black, Indigo, Tobacco, and Van Cleef (brown). They sell for L$140 each, or, organized into two fat packs of 5, for L$550 for each 5-pack.
You get the trousers as both pants-layer and underpants-layer and straight leg cuffs as prims, all are NoTrans.
You’ll find Whippet & Buck at Imogen (56, 214, 28).
These photos were taken in the lovely sim with the nickname Red Desert.
