Blogger Style Throwdown: Outfit with a Knife/Dagger under 3000L (vs. Venturino Benson)
March 7th, 2009 at 07:14am Express Zenovka
That’s right, the last type of throwdown. Featuring knives or daggers, so less. Who chose that theme? Venturino Benson of My Second Life on the D-list. Venturino’s one of the few guys who still cover male freebies, so definitely keep an eye out for the goodies he covers. Venturino’s also the man behind V-Poses, a fun store full of singles and couples poses. Now that introductions have been made, lets get on with this knifing business.
Express Zenovka - Behind Enemy Lines
28 Days. Its been 28 days since we were shot down. They told us it was a standard procedure routine fly by. Only the navigator knew we were flying into restricted air space, and he must have been ordered to keep it quiet. I was on radio, yelling friendly greetings into the mic wondering why I received no response. In retrospect, it makes sense that they didn’t respond, huh?

We all tried to eject before we were hit. When I awoke, I was in the middle of the jungle. All I had was my sidearm, two rounds, a knife, and my belt. Blood was everywhere, gushing from a huge gash in my arm. I stumbled around, trying to find water to clean the wound — using my only bandage to staunch the flow. I was paranoid the first night, stayed alert.. shot everything that moved. Till I ran out of ammo.

I’ve gotten smarter since, though. I’ve managed to survive on small creatures and mushrooms. I searched for the other guys, but didn’t find any of them. I eventually found the wreckage of the plane, a few days ago. Every day I turn on the transmitter in the afternoon, hoping HQ notices.

I’ll keep waiting. I’ll survive and I’ll make it home. I know it.

Venturino Benson - Arabian Nights Hero

How interesting to be challenged by Express to the throwdown competition! And the theme for this round is an outfit around a knife/dagger, which is something completely new and tough to me as I am not into SL weaponry of any kind. Picking the right dagger for the right outfit is definitely not easy. Short daggers and knives tend to make me relate to a couple of things: adventures, thieves/heroes and also Arabian nights.

This outfit that I picked consists of elements that I mentioned above with a modern twist and a hint of Arabian Nights (with the flared pants and the sandals). Instead of the dramatic colors, I opted for a sleek and chic look, with minimal accessories and a simple dagger to make the outfit look current and adventurous.

This one was way hard! You both did excellent. I like Venturino’s old school Aladdin like twist, very romantic (and made me think of Legolas from LOTR, but I’m not really a fangirl so no effect) Express had great drama, and a lot of detail in the outfit.

Wow! You both did such a great job! Absolutely gorgeous outfit and images Venturino (and I’m definitely checking out your pose shop later today… I love buying great poses!), but I’m gonna have to go with Express… I love his first shot (very Apocalypse now) and his rugged take-no-prisoners look makes me think that if you guys were really in a knife fight… Express would win.

This as Ashleigh said is very very hard!
The question asked was who was more fashionably menacing?
Well if menacing was the only criteria, then Express would win hands down as Posy said, he looks very Apocalypse now. I wouldn’t bet on him not surviving an encounter with armed only with his dagger.
On the other hand, in terms of fashion, I think Venturino looks a lot more fashionable (and I agree about the Legolas feel, though I think there’s a lot of David Beckham there too), and certainly in terms of what I’d like to wear down the street I’d prefer his outfit. The trouble is, he looks like he’s stepped off a model catwalk and into the set of Indiana Jones…it’s almost too perfect!
The roleplayer in me says go with Express, the fashion-lover in me says to go with Venturino, what’s a boy to do??
Have both of course!
I officially abstain and give my congratulations to both on a fine job
P.S. Posy I really like the idea for the shirt and vest you have made which Express is wearing with all the holes; I was wondering though how they might look with a bit more cloth texture to it?
They’re so smooth at the moment that they (in particular the shirt) might be bodypaint Express is wearing, or at least clothes he put on when he was 14 and it’s become holey more because he’s grown and stretched it skintight and beyond rather than that because he’s been fighting Predators heh.

(In case you were wondering the above should have read “I wouldn’t bet on him not surviving an encounter with *insert random alien monster* armed only with his dagger.”)

Hey Leo… interesting comments about the War-Torn gear that Express is wearing. It’s actually a tank top rather than a vest that goes over the t-shirt. It also comes with a longsleeve tee that can layer under the t-shirt as well, that will give the look even more fabric coverage, which might answer your look about more cloth texture. I intentionally designed it as a skin-tight very well-worn tee ensemble that has seen many years of use (and adventures)… and interesting hole patterns with skin and other cloth layers showing through. I also wanted to make it as versatile as possible. Each shirt is separate and comes in every clothing layer, so you can show more skin with a single shirt layer, or less skin wearing all the layers. Personally, I think it’s kind of a sexy look, which Express shows off very well

The Dog Tags reveal it as fashion and not “realistic”. They never get the Dog Tags right.

To Posy: Ah that explains it! I do think it’s a very unique and sexy outfit - there are plenty of shirts on the market with slashes and gashes, but very few with holes like this, and even fewer with such layer options. I like it!
To Merc: I agree, there’s something not quite right about those tags but bear in mind they were freebies. IMO Aitui do a great set of dogtags (long and short versions which you can also customise to add your own texture to) which aren’t free but reasonable priced, there are also others I think at Muism which are pretty good.

Unfortunately, even those seem to be geared for the fashion community. I have only seen one true recreation of U.S. Military Dog Tags that will work properly for military RP etc.
But yeah, for free fashion acessories, those look really good.

I tried to find the hair of the Venturino model at Lelutka but unfortunately the store / island is closed with no prevision to re-open. Im sad because the hair is beautiful .. I was looking for something like that for long time. Thanks.

Ze: Venturino’s skin is from LeLutka, but his hair is from fascino. Afaik, they’re currently open.
