While I did – just – prefer Domch’s choice of clothes, where he really pulled out the stops and drew ahead was in the photography. The ambient lighting, backdrops and poses gave the guy an “unfair” (though I use that term loosely since you both had control over these things) advantage. The overall effect transcends a throwdown and goes into pure art. As a photographer myself, I was impressed.
Keep up the great work though; what I’m trying to say is that you weren’t wooped so much on the clothes choice I suspect as in the final result of the pics. Can’t wait for next week’s pictures!
Gotta agree with Leo here, Ex – you don’t require the use of specific poses, backgrounds or anything like that, and it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting if you did. With all that freedom, you really do invite comparison on every level. We could always make the poll more interesting and allow more than a simple binary choice…maybe different categories or areas of expression? Just sayin’.
Express and Ryan – thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great series. I really enjoyed the whole process of having to think about or around a theme – in this case, one that I’m kind of culturally distanced from, being from Singapore and all!
Just some thoughts in response to some of the comments that’ve come up – I see SL fashion as being about emotion as much as the ‘physical’ (well, virtual would be the better word I guess) construction or design of the clothes. The pictures and the narrative they contain are very important to me as such.
As for the idea of ‘authenticity’, I’m not so sure I agree with Avon on this. Express points out as much in the start of his post – we have a certain mental image of a ‘cowboy’ – much as we might all draw a certain kind of house or certain kind of cat, when asked to do so, but surely it’s worth questioning just what has gone into the creation of that particular ‘idea’ of ‘cat’, or ‘house’, or ‘cowboy’?
In my case, I was gunning more for the contemporary cowboy – someone you might meet at a rodeo or ranch today, rather than say a century back. And again, I can only guess at what such a person might look like, from online sites like ‘American Cowboy’.
