About
Men’s Second Style (formerly Second Man, hence our domain name) was founded in August 2006 by Second Life resident Nicholas Shaftoe. With the then-pending demise of the SL forums and the general sense that there were not a lot of good choices for men’s fashion in SL, Nick decided to start a blog that would track new releases and give reviews of existing stores and designers.
In January 2007, Nick honored me by asking me if I would consider acting as Editor in Chief. I had been greatly enjoying the opportunity to contribute regularly to the blog and was happy to step up and take on the challenge of doing more for and with Men’s Second Style.
Who is this guy Ryan, though ? What’s he all about? I’m just a guy who finds some fun and creative expression in Second Life, first by putting up and furnishing a home in Otherland with my partner Sean, later by discovering and running wild with men’s SL fashion–and accumulating far too large a wardrobe in the process (thanks, Nick!), then justifying that obsession by writing about it on this blog (thanks again, Nick!). Most recently I have tried my hand at building, starting with some custom furniture for our home. It’s all good.
I am always on the lookout for new designs to review for the blog, so if you’re a designer of men’s fashion, or if you’re a resident and have come across some great designs we haven’t covered here, let me know in-world or by e-mail at ryandarraghsl (at) gmail (dot) com. I can’t promise to review everything, due to a variety of factors including my own budget and time constraints as well as quality of design and construction. Like Nick says, “It ain’t a democracy, it’s style.”
Designers are invited to send new product announcements to me as outlined above. Please include your ad art for the product, either as a texture (in-world) or JPEG attachment (e-mail). I do not typically post product announcements on the blog as I prefer to focus on actual reviews, but if your design looks good and of likely interest to our readers, I’ll be motivated to check it out for possible review.
If you are a designer and would like to provide a review sample of your new work, just drop it on me in-world. Folders or packed objects are preferable to individual clothing items, which can get lost in my Clothing folder. Please be sure to include a landmark to your shop along with any other information you want me to have; pricing information is especially helpful as I always include this in product reviews. You might also send me an IM or e-mail to let me know what you’re dropping on me, so I can be sure to check for it. Again, I can’t promise to review every sample, but I do give my 100% guarantee that I will try it on and look it over carefully, so you’re already ahead of the game. I may pass review samples on to one of our other contributors, if object permissions allow transfer, or invite you to provide samples to another contributor so we can give prompt attention to your work.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks for providing this great service to all of us out there who like their men with a little class and style. Shopping for new outfits for my partner in SL was a chore before I found this site – now it is something I look forward to. You have impeccable taste in clthes; whenever something is posted here I tend to go check it out. There hasn’t really been a dissapointment yet!
Keep up the good work and thanks again,
A pleased SL girlfriend.

Thanks. I can’t take all the credit, most of it these days goes to Ryan, Giddeon, Zarithi, and Zebediah!
