A study in holiday contrast
I won’t argue with you. The juxtaposition may indeed seem odd. Skinkie Winkler’s new “Esprit de Neige” (Spirit of Snow) men’s necklace is is a stunning piece of simple, icy elegance, eminently suitable for dressy, even formal holiday occasions. And I’m wearing it with…antlers?
Yes.  Let me tell you why. There is, as the saying goes, a method to my madness.
I think we sometimes worry too much about “properly coordinating” our clothing, jewelry, hairstyle, accessories, toys and whatnot when we put ourselves together. Now, I’m not trying to discourage you from striving for sartorial harmony rather than chaos. But there’s also nothing wrong with whimsy, or with occasionally wearing, let’s say, a more “formal” piece of jewelry with a more “casual” outfit, just to let it really stand out and shine. Once you understand certain guiding principles, then you can begin bending them, even if you prefer not to break them outright. Hey, this is SL, not RL–it’s supposed to be fun!
The bright silver “Esprit de Neige” necklace appears to rest naturally lightly upon the neck, the links of its shiny chain flowing naturally over the contours of the shoulders and collarbone. But we know that this must be an illusion: prims simply don’t fall, flow and rest like this. The beautiful illusion is the result of hundreds of tiny, twisted and tortured prims, hand-placed to achieve the desired composition and structure. The snowflake ornament is simple and delicate, in contrast to the sturdy, masculine chain.   No bling script has been used to add “sparkle,” which is fine with me. Instead, as described by the included informational notecard, “the process of ‘torturing’…twists and tweaks ordinary prims into the tiniest shapes.  Many of those tiny prims together result in a natural ‘prim twinkle’ that reminds of the sparkle of real gems without the use of any bling script.” You must judge for yourself, but I think the effect is beautiful, and only becomes more so upon closer inspection.
Chest-attach and spine-attach versions are included. Permissions are M C T, so the necklace is not moddable, but resize scripting provides for easy fitting.
This necklace was created by Skinkie Winkler for the Peace on Earth hunt in December 2008.  It is available as a special hunt gift until December 31 in the ~flirt~ mainstore (Juicy 38, 213, 23); look for the “Peace on Earth” globe. The set also includes a women’s gift from the Esprit de Neige collection. Skinkie mentioned that some new designs for men are in the works, so be on the lookout in the New Year.
Now, about those antlers. They are the Schadenfreude Antlers by Allegory Malaprop. This style, with Christmas lights, is an “also included” item in the Skull Ornament Antlers set, and although other, more traditional holiday ornaments are also available, it should surprise no one that this is the style I took home for myself. The set also includes plain antlers and antlers decorated with shiny glass-ball tree ornaments from your childhood. All are insanely, divinely scripted, as is Allegory’s typical wont, so you can recolor and otherwise customize the antlers and the decorations themselves to suit your holiday whim. L$200 for your choice of copiable or transferable antlers. Who on your holiday shopping list doesn’t need antlers? Available at Schadenfreude (Lloyd 37, 51, 32).
