I recently posted a New Feature suggestion on the SL JIRA about this – i’m suggesting we have tiered access to SL with free unverified accounts having no build facility. It’s just one possible way we could reduce the amount of theft and griefing in SL. Check it out here : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1732

Thanks so much for covering this campaign Ryan. It’s most definitely a difficult issue to solve…if that’s even possible, but one that will surely take the effort of a collective to even come close. BTW, noticed the slurl has a typo (“Plush” not “Plus”)…here’s the actual link:

Chez, thanks for the heads-up. Stypid typos–I hate ‘em. I fixed my broken slurl.

I wish the designers every luck in their fights against content theft, I fear the day that there is nothing new to buy.
I hope though that they don’t follow the lead of the major record companies and start introducing DRM like features like NoMod as the record companies did to stop people ripping CD’s onto their ipod.
The Lindens need to step up to the plate and improve their rules on this first, make repeated copying a bannable offense, then they need to improve the client to stop it casually too.

As a content creator I fully support Chez’s efforts.
I contend that RL copyright into this platform remains unscalable and it’s not Linden Labs Inc’s mandate to police it. Instead a verified content registration (first come first served design registration) inworld that only allows verified items to be sold (which Linden Lab could develop) ensures that it is resolved inworld. Leaving the DMCA process for RL Brands who have had their designs copied, and removing it from inworld resident to other.
I look forward to seeing how we all combat this issue.

Perhaps poke Suzanna Soyinka about this as well. She’s currently trying to drum up the cash to go to litigation over the theft of work done by her and Jora Wesla for scripting the CCS system that was stolen by the people that were supposed to help streamline and debug the code.
