Welcome to the third installment of my Hair Fair 2009 coverage! Although I didn’t set out with a theme in mind, upon reflection it seems to me that the styles here are all nicely suited for summer, with its plethora of outdoor activities and generally casual vibe. I hope you’ll like at least some of these styles as much as I do. First, though, some brief editorializing, as I can’t seem to help myself. Feel free to read through or skip on down to the pretty pictures.
Nothing consumes me like editing hair. (I know, I ranted before on the topic of scripted vs. moddable hair. But this is different, so please indulge me. I’ll keep it short, I promise!) When a hairstyle calls for significant custom tweaking to fit my avie, it’s a serious undertaking. The result can be me falling into a Zen-like state, zoning out and not really being aware of things around me. Things like music playing, the phone ringing, and announcements that it’s time for dinner. You know…stuff like that. When Posy and I set out to explore the vast, unknown depths of Hollow Earth Underdark, our excitement was tempered by a thrill of apprehension. What would we discover? What secrets lay in wait for us? What mysteries might transform us? Would we need a travel buddy? Read the rest of this entry »
Lately I’ve come to the realization that I don’t get out and explore in SL as much as I used to, as much as I’d like to, or as much as I should. It’s not always easy to find the right balance between SL and RL, especially when RL usually needs and deserves to come first. And as much as I love doing this blog, it does take up pretty much all of the time I have available for SL. What to do? What to do indeed.
I decided that maybe I’d try something different and see how it floats. If it goes well, I’ll get to do a little more exploring, put together a feature to share with you here, and have fun along the way. If it goes over well, I’ll do a post like this from time to time, just to break things up.
The idea is pretty simple. While exploring someplace I’ve found and think is exceptional and worth sharing, I’ll take totally touristy travel photos. I’ll write up my experience as a kind of travelogue and post it here with illustrations. Never fear, there will be clothing and accessories! If I plan well, the outfit will fit right in. If I don’t, it’ll be totally random. Chances are, it’ll typically fall somewhere in between.
Stay tuned for the first installment, which is currently in post-production. After that, more Hair Fair men’s styles coverage. As always, thanks for reading.Â
Welcome to the second installment of my Hair Fair 2009 coverage! Here you’ll find another handful of solid new styles for men by creative designers. Trying on such a torrent of styles in a relatively short timeframe has also left me just a little bit ranty, and I feel the need to get it out of my system, so bear with me. A lot of hairstyles these days (including many I’ve featured on this blog, and some included here) include resizer scripts for simple, automatic resizing. As you may already know, I am kind of torn on this practice . (Admit it—you knew I’d have to rant about something.) On the one hand, resizer scripts are easy for new residents to use and make for fairly straightforward fitting. On the other hand, they typically don’t allow for the kind of custom tweaking of individual hair strands (prims) that I often want or need to do for the hair to fit my avie perfectly, or as perfectly as I can make it. Let me just say it right out: Hair Fair 2009 kicked my ass. I didn’t manage to get there for an early “preview,” when I suppose there might have been fewer shoppers and perhaps less lag.  I ended up making my way through the substantial array of shops along with, as near as I could tell, absolutely everyone else in SL. This had both its good and bad points, as I’m sure you can imagine. In the end, I finally made the full circuit in seven or eight sessions over three or four days. This might be a personal best (or worst?) for me. I know for a fact that I’ve finished Relay For Life tracks in less time. Hmm, so much for vacation downtime. As you have no doubt already noticed, I did not manage to get my first round of Hair Fair coverage posted during my vacation last week (although I did manage to get it about halfway put together). I think we can credit that to all the fun I was having, and not to lameness on (ahem) anyone’s part. That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it. Anyway, I’m back home now and slowly getting back to normal, such as it is. You’ll be hearing from me again as I get back into my regular daily groove.Â
Yeah, that’s right–I’m off on a vacation trip as of today. (That’s “holiday” for many of you in other parts of the world.) I’ll be away from home for the next week or thereabouts, so things will be kinda quiet around here. I did manage to take pictures of a bunch of hairstyles I picked up at Hair Fair. I plan to work on putting that together in my downtime (even vacations have some dead air here and there) and hopefully publish around mid-week. So, hey, at least you’ve got that to look forward to! I’ll be getting back to work in earnest when I get back home next week…promise!
