In my last post I featured some of my favorites at Free Dove so in this post I’ll focus on the GNUbie Store. Unlike Free Dove, GNUbie is organized by designer. Each one has a stall, wall, or display and whatever items they have offered are available together. What you find and at what price varies from designer to designer, but everything there is either free or $1L and modifiable.
One of my favorite freebie jeans, especially when I first started, is available on the second floor of GNUbie. There are six different types of Rebelation jeans from Rebel Hope of RH Designs, available in black and blue, with various tattoo-like designs and patterns on them. The textures aren’t flat and dull, but actually look like jeans. The seams though, admittedly, need a more than just a little bit of work. All in all these are a solid set of jeans that go for 0L. Out of the box, I found these jeans are tad bit on the baggy side, so I went and modified them down to a shape I preferred. Read the rest of this entry »

The reason I ended up modeling for Ryan in the first place is that I’m a sucker for suits. So a post about freebie suits was inevitable. First off, Vindi Vindaloo’s white tux is a staple at Free Dove that just about every guy should pick up. But there are other options out there, especially if you’re looking for a more casual, dressy suit instead of a business ensemble.
First up is the Cecile D-Suit from Donmai Frederick, of Back and Forth. As far as I can tell (from what little Japanese I can understand) Cecile is a Japanese catalog retailer. They’ve put out some clothes, based on their actual wares, for guys and girls to dress up and pose outside their build. The D-Suit is the male offering. It consists of a black jacket and pants, three dress shirts, and three prim ties. I really have no complaints with this suit, except that the ties can be a bit annoying to fit. Textures are quite good, layers are used well — it’s a really great freebie. Read the rest of this entry »
Just so you’ll know, I do occasionally learn from my own experiences. Although I’m embarking here on an overall designer review (rather than a specific new release), I will endeavor not to make again the tactical error I made when I reviewed Gaia Goodnight’s Darkstar Designs earlier this month, namely the ill-advised decision to include umpteen different outfits and items in a single post. And don’t get it wrong–the temptation to do so again with Kavar Cleanslate’s designs at Exile was very, very strong. However, I’m confident that you are a gentle and patient people, and you’re willing to accept delayed rather than instant gratification. If not, you can just TP over to the shop and check things out for yourself.
Kavar mentioned to me that he’s really into themed outfits and costumes right now, and I want to cover a couple of his new releases for you here. Imagine the possibilities for themed nights at your favorite club! Hmm, sometimes there are cash prizes…I’m just sayin’. Read the rest of this entry »
There’s a sale going on at the Creator’s Pavilion with at least one product from just about every content creator on the sim. I’m wearing a freebie shirt from =about= and 1L tartan pants from Kilin. Off the top of my head, I also saw some guy’s clothes from Sey and Arai out in the sale area.
Sale ends March 3rd, so head to creators pavilion asap. The sim map is after the cut so you can see all the other stores there. Read the rest of this entry »
Shame on me–it’s been a while since I visited Zero Style, and when I decided to make a quick visit last night I found that not only is there a new main shop I’ve never seen, it’s in the Zero Style sim. Hair designer Rei Gully has clearly been not only busy but successful, which is great to see. Rei’s new style “Euphoria”is a confidently executed style that’s casual and slightly shaggy.
“Euphoria” stands in fairly sharp contrast to another of Rei’s styles that I really like, “BRP.” While “BRP” is much more formally structured and stylized (“not a hair out of place” indeed), “Euphoria” makes use of more naturalistic hair colors and textures and isn’t afraid to look casually mussed. The turned-up ends of the long hair in back seem particularly realistic, and the single out-of-control strand up top makes me smile. This is yet another style I wish my hair would imitate more closely in real life. The one improvement I might wish for would be the inclusion of a few flexi strands here and there, to add some life, but that’s just me. I have hinted in previous posts, that for me, it is difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans in Second Life. I am reminded of the times I have gone shopping with my RL wife and she searches through every store in the mall to be defeated in the end. At the end of the day the complaints and tears seem endless. Either the pockets fit funny, they aren’t the right “style” or they make her butt look fat. Until I became Second Life fashion obsessed, I never understood why or what caused her such grief. “Just grab the pair that fits and find your way back to the car.” But it was never that easy. And, for some reason I think God is teaching me a lesson for not showing her patience. In RL I wear a 34-32. In Second Life it takes a lot more effort to find the right fit. Hopefully I can save you time and energy. I will review seven designers and I guarantee that at each location there is a pair you’ll enjoy.

I’m speechless.

BareRose Tokyo.
It’s been months since I showed you around hyasynth Tiramisu’s Silent Sparrow collection for men. Since then, she’s released several wonderful outfits for men and remodelled her sim and shop. I’m told by reliable sources that it’s totally amazing if you use the Windlight viewer. There’s a big reopening party planned for this weekend.
The most fabulous of the new releases is a new steampunk era suit called Sprocket. It comes in 6 flavours; I chose ‘dusk,’ the purple one (but couldn’t resist some extra colours, as you’ll see). The folder contained a jacket garment with prim jacket tails for men and for women, two pairs of trousers, two shirts (on the undershirt layer) with dusk-coloured ties/cravats painted on, and a dusk-coloured waistcoat/vest (on the shirt layer). Sometimes guys just want to have fun. I know, I know, in the song Cyndi’s talking about girls, but fortunately Jeanni Nishi knows the real truth: it’s guys, too. (You know the song, of course. If not–first, shame on you, and second, you’ll never win on Jeopardy if the Daily Double is in Eighties Pop.) Jeanni is just starting to roll out designs at her new shop Sweeet!!, but she already has some fun stuff for the guys, and the girls haven’t been forgotten either.
Here I’m wearing the Seersucker Shirt (L$100) in Brown, but you’ll find it in a variety of other colors as well. I’m layering with the Tartan Vest (L$100) in Red, because as you know I’ve got something of an affinity for the family of warmer tones, but you have plenty of other color choices. Hey, it’s a guilty pleasure, but I’ve decided not to give it up for Lent.
