New: Lace-up shirts @ Renown by Aitui

laceup_brown.jpgHave you ever noticed how the International Male catalog just follows you around?  I mean, once you’re on the mailing list–and who knows how that happens in the first place?–it’s for life.  You can move and leave no forwarding address, but it’ll find you.  It’s always just there, waiting in the mailbox.  Or, hmm, maybe that’s just me.  These slick new lace-up shirts by Jesseaitui Petion of Renown feel to me like upscale re-interpretations of one of those ”classic” IM designs (undoubtedly called something awful like “Pirate Shirt”) that you might look at in the catalog but never order, or order but never wear, or wear but wonder if you’re really pulling it off.  If you say these are a bit of a leap for most guys, I’d agree, but I’d argue that they’re one worth making.  They’re beautifully textured, have a great, slinky fit, and have already earned me some compliments. New: Skater sneaks @ KK Outfitters

strykers_full.jpgDesigner Arycon Fasching of KK Outfitters makes some of my favorite sneakers in SL–his high-tops and newer low-tops are fun interpretations of classic styles.  Now he’s added skateboarding sneaks to his Slicks line of shoes, and it’s been worth the wait because they’re beautiful!  Arycon’s new “Strykers” skater sneaks feature a tongue at the shoe heel, full prim laces with bow, plastic end caps on the laces, metallic grommets, sleek swoop logos on the sides, and realistic bumpy sole textures.  These are great-looking shoes that really benefit from careful attention to prim and texture detailing.  Although they are currently available only in snappy Black and Gray (pictured), Arycon reports that more color schemes are in the works, including Tan, Brown, Gray, White and Olive Green.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see ‘em!  :D (more…)

New: Soviet military covercoats @ D3volution

d3volution_snapshot_001.jpgThe following intercepted Eyes Only communiqués are published here in the interests of promoting the public good. - Ed.

The intrepid agent carries his pocket recorder, microdot messaging device and magnifying loupe in his leather attaché case. He wears dark glasses — even in the night. He is the amoral loner — an existential character operating outside the constraints of society to secure the safety and well-being of prominent political figures. He maintains crucial property of the state at any cost. The bottom line: preserve the inner circle. Whether he wishes to conceal or advertise his presence for the sake of the mission or social camouflage a crisp overcoat is a must. One can not show up for international espionage and counter-espionage without being properly attired. Having been sent orders from the Generalissimo of the Red Army through the lines of communication he is charged with the task of locating and acquiring the perfect military overcoat.

His first and only stop: D3volution headquarters in Muir. (more…)

New: Satin shirts @ FF Menswear

satin_shirt_black_tucked_front.jpgI like shirts that have a little something extra.  This goes all the way back to high school for me and is probably a reflection of the era and its fashions (no, I’m not telling, so figure it out for yourself).  Nothing can flatter a guy quite like a great shirt, and whether it’s an exceptional fabric, unique design, or a perfectly cut shape, nothing stands out from the crowd and in the memory quite like that little something extra.  These new shirts by designer Flugel Flasheart of FF Menswear are simple and classic in design, all the better to show off what really puts them over the top–their sumptuous satin cloth texture.  Even on the deep black shirt I’m wearing here, the rich folds in the fabric seem to gleam in the light, and the texturing captures the way satin really flows and moves without sharply wrinkling.  This is impressive, beautifully realistic fabric artwork–it’s no wonder Flugel says these shirts are already so wildly popular that he has released additional colors. New: Disco glam shirts @ Casa Del Shai

disco_shirt_turquoise.jpgShai Delacroix continues her glitterball glitz-blitz down Memory Lane with these fab new Disco Shirts for men.  (She has a whole line of Solid Gold gear for women, too!)  I expect to be no less than completely wowed by Shai’s designs, but these shirts are impossibly, weepingly beautiful.  I missed the Disco Era–I was a little too young, in fact a mere babe, thanks for asking–but Shai’s retrodisco designs seem to bring it all back, heightened and romanticized to be sure, but it all feels right somehow.  The cloth of these shirts has an elaborate, almost baroque pattern that by rights ought to be in conflict with the silky nylon/poly sheen of the fabric, but here they meet and blend harmoniously.  Design = Art + Magic.  Here you see the Disco Shirt in Turquoise.  Note how details like the point collar, deep vee neck, and buttons are kept subtle and restrained so the fabric of the shirt can really stand out and shine–all in perfect balance. New: Men’s necklace, arm cuffs @ Shiny Things

belou_necklace_cuffs.jpgDesigner Fallingwater Cellardoor of Shiny Things is the creator of easily some of the finest, most beautiful shoes in SL for both men and women.  She has also designed a variety of amazing jewelry, purses and other accessories for the ladies, and I’m crazy about her Compass Bag.  This is (I believe) her first jewelry design for men, and it’s a stunner.  If I’m wrong, someone please correct me before she reads this!  ;)  Her new Belou necklace features an intricate design of darkly shining metalwork and hand-painted beads strung on a black leather thong.  The detailing on the beads is gorgeous, with delicate ribbons in muted blues and greys winding around cylindrical and disc-shaped ceramic beads.  This is a strong and handsome piece, decidedly masculine, beautiful but not “pretty.”  The thoughtful design of the neckpiece allows for a perfect fit with a minimum of adjustment and fuss. New: Hoodies @ Here Comes Trouble

hoodie_brown_front.jpgIf you’re thinking, “Oh, hmm, another hoodie,” I can hardly blame you.  Seems like there have been a lot of jackets covered here lately, and I willingly admit that I’ve featured a fair number of hoodies.  (Call it a soft spot.)  Bailey Mackenzie has struck gold with this simple, classic design, though, and I can’t not talk about it.  Each hoodie includes a zip-up jacket (worn on the jacket layer for length), prim hood with flexi ties, and optional sleeve extensions (worn on the glove layer).  The design features racing stripe sleeves, front patch pockets, beautiful velour fabric texture, and ribbed cuffs at the bottom him and on the sleeves.  The front zipper makes a deep vee, so you can show off a tee under the jacket or subtly show a little skin, just for fun.  The prim hood did not require any adjustment to look good on my avatar, but of course you can tweak the position on your own avatar if needed.  The hood ties are slightly flexi and bounce a little as you move. New: Anime-style hair @ Zero Style

brp_full.jpgI don’t know what it is–it’s like I can’t get enough hair lately.  My latest craze is this anime-influenced style called “BRP,” designed by Rei Gully of Zero Style.  This style isn’t flexi, but it really doesn’t need to be.  When have you ever seen an anime guy’s hair move, anyway?  Come to think of it, the frame rate in lower-budget anime productions is probably about the same as the frame rate at my favorite dance club when it’s busy.  ;)  This hair is perhaps stylized to a slightly higher degree than I usually wear, but it’s not so stylized that it’s unrealistic; there are enough spikey strands to make for a full look.  I love the high lift in the front–it’s very Duran Duran and reminds me of the Eighties, which on and off these days I miss with a vengeance.  Nostalgia is a great and terrible thing.  “BRP” is perfect for that Disco or Eighties theme party you’ve got coming up…and you know you do. Men’s Second Style website kiosks

kiosk_13prim.jpgIf you’ve been by Donmai Frederick’s shop Back and Forth lately, you may have noticed the really quite stylish Men’s Second Style kiosk standing outside, right next to the Pixel Pinup “newsstand.”  Click on the kiosk and it will ask permission to load the Men’s Second Style site in your default web browser.  Click Yes and you’re off to…right here.  Okay, so you probably don’t need a kiosk to find us.  But, as hard as this may be for you to believe, there are still many, many poor souls out there who aren’t aware of Men’s Second Style and its status as the premier resource for men’s fashion in SL.  This is our attempt to reach out to them…the ones who need us most.  ;) (more…)

Outfit: “Mad Love”

mad_love_full.jpgI’m trying something new here, and a little bit different.  Actually, I’m shamelessly stealing Ben Vanguard’s “Outfit of the Day” concept from his new blog.  I told him that really I wouldn’t be stealing, it would be more of an homage.  He laughed, so I think I’m safe.  ;)

You’ll notice that I’m not calling this an “Outfit of the Day” post–I won’t be doing this every day, but if the response is positive I may do it once in a while.  This is also a perfect opportunity for me to showcase some great new items that I haven’t been able to feature in a dedicated review post.  If you’re interested in trying your hand at something like this for the blog, let me know!

I’m calling this ensemble “Mad Love” after the fantastic tee I started with and built from there.  Both the Mad Love shirt and Muddy Cut Tyler Jeans pictured here are by designer Rhyph Somme and are available at Sidewalk (formerly RS Creations) at Isabella 102, 21, 123.  The graphic and artistic design on this shirt are gorgeous, from the rough-edged band of the knit collar to the subtle torso contouring and detailing.  My mama always told me that redhead boys shouldn’t wear red clothes, but I think we can cut her some slack there–after all, she’s never seen me quite like this. New: Cycle Jackets @ Winter Moon

wintermoon_snapshot_001.jpgIf upon hearing any reference to the rules of Fight Club your mind first runs on Winter Moon’s Tyler Durden collection you are an official Second Life addict and a complete Arbel Vogel junkie. There’s no hope for you. Your only consolation is in the fact that it’s time to get your next WM fix. Whether you’re riding your Vespa down the narrow cobblestone of Parioli, letting your Ducati loose on the streets of Barcola or lounging at The High Society in Otherland you’re sure to streamline your performance with these sleek Cycle jackets.

Arbel has christened the year with a unisexy collection of 3 sets of rugged mandarin-collar leathers. The initial aesthetic appeal of the jackets lies in the attentiveness in detailing. The Specialty leathers in particular are unique - layered with brusque motifs: biting metal, unabashed nationalism and the restlessness of the witching hour. The artistic approach somewhat softens the harshness, attributing to the gender flexibility of the clothing. (more…)

New: Shaggy hair @ Mystikal Hair Designs

momo_front.jpgI’m usually a neat and proper kind of guy (”No!” I hear you all shouting), but I’ve found some great shaggy hair styles lately that I like a lot.  Lost Thereian’s “Gabriel” style come to mind, and also his “Untamed” style.  And now Mystikal Faddoul adds to my shaggy repertoire with her new “Momo” style, just released at her shop, Mystikal Hair Designs.  Less angelic than “Gabriel,” wilder even than “Untamed,” “Momo” has a real just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-I-still-look-great vibe.  The overall feel is one of controlled chaos, as the many crazy flipped-up ends really do look like you washed, towel-dried, ran your fingers through your hair and “shook your head, darling.”  José Eber would be proud!  When I was in seventh grade, I so wanted my hair to look like this, but neither it nor my parents would cooperate.  Now I can fill in that gap in my junior high experience without reliving my childhood.  ;) (more…)

New: Shirts @ Roxee

dragon_strike_front.jpgIn celebration of the grand opening of her new main store location, designer Trinitee Trilam has released four new shirts for the guys.  I had a few minutes at last to try them all on yesterday, and they are just as beautiful as the shirts in her first men’s collection.  All are worn on the jacket layer for extra length and have a smart but casual feel that’s perfect for having fun on weekend outings and looking great at the same time.

dragon_strike_back.jpgThis shirt is called “Dragon Strike,” and although it looks simple from the front, looks are deceiving in this case–the back features a stylized dragon design, its claws raised to attack.   Embroidery on the chest gives away who you stole this one from.  The simple grey-on-black color design is classic and striking, and a perfect match for Zabitan Assia’s inFORMer Sneaks in the “Manga” style.  Zab’s sneakers are some of my favorite casual shoes–with simple jeans and almost any shirt, you really can’t go wrong. New: Sweater vests @ Vitamin Ci

chris_vest_olive.jpgI have visited Ciera Bergman’s shop Vitamin Ci once or twice before and came home with one or two things for myself here and there.  Who knows why I didn’t blog any of them here?  Just being selfish, I suppose.  But these new sweater vests are so casually appealing that I just have to share them with you.  This new design is called “Chris” and each set includes a sweater vest over an untucked button-up shirt (together on the jacket layer) and a pair of pants in a coordinating color.

The sweater has slightly nubby but not rough texturing that feels comfortable and warm.  The ribbing at the V-neck and bottom hem is a nice bit of detailing that adds visual interest.  I really like the way the shirt’s untucked tails give you a look that’s not preppy (so 1982) but still fun and informal.  You see the combo here in olive; it’s also available in red, blue and grey. New: Leather and denim @ *G*L*A*M*

leather_jacket_black_full.jpgLately I’ve been wondering what Chloris Hathor was up to–I hadn’t seen any new men’s designs from her since the beautiful denim jackets she released in early December.  Well, apparently she’s been busy moving her shop into new digs and re-visioning her brand, because Threads By Chlo! has become *G*L*A*M*.  Hey–if the girls can be glamorous, why can’t the guys?  ;)  When I read that she had just released not only some new denim jeans but a couple of leather jackets, I couldn’t wait to get over there and check them out.  Man, was I glad I did  I’ve been loving Chlo’s jeans ever since I first discovered them, and she’s added four new denim washes to her line:  Sea Salt, pictured here (a faded, grungy light wash); Miami (white with palm tree back pocket embroidery); Espresso (a dark black wash); and Coffee, pictured below (a tinged brown wash).  Chlo’s denim textures are just beautiful, with a wonderfully soft, pastel/watercolor feel.  She also has two new leather jackets, one black with light beige stitching, the other brown with orange stitching.  Here I’m wearing the Sea Salt wash jeans with the black leather jacket, which makes for a great casual pairing.  The jackets have the same soft coloring and feel as the jeans, so they go together very well. New: High Roller Suits @ Casa Del Shai

high_roller_green_front_black.jpgHow do I love thee, Shai?  Let me count the ways.  As if your Travolta Suit’s disco-fever gorgeosity were somehow, impossibly not enough, now you have blessed us with the over-the-top kitschglam of your new High Roller Suit!  My heart sings with gladness.

I’ve actually been sitting on these for some time as Shai gleefully sprang them on me while I was still ogling the Travolta Suit for the first time (I believe my exact words were “OMG is that cloth texture doubleknit polyester?!?”)  It was a terrible and unfair distraction as after all these suits are shiny.  It’s no wonder I couldn’t look away.  Shai, you evil genius!

You will be crazy in love with the deep V-neck black shirt, the way its spread collar falls over the double-wide shiny (natch) satin lapels, and the beltless pants that are absolute perfection.  Here I’m wearing the jacket in green with the pants in black, completing the outfit with Fallingwater Cellardoor’s fab “City Walk” dress shoes.  I simply cannot be stopped!  But you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. New: Highwayman jackets @ Brutal Gear

brutalgear_snapshot_001.jpgThe wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding-
Riding-riding-
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door

When Alfred Noyes penned his romanic poem in 1906 he had no knowledge that over the centuries his iconic vision of independence and masculinity, the solitary wayfarer, would evolve from a plume-hatted equestrian gent with 3/4-length jacket into a surly tattoed badass riding 800 lbs. of forged metal wearing leather chaps. The leather waist-cut highwayman jacket is now the fashion signature for every Biker, Rocker and Oi Boy this side of paradise. With his recent release of The Highwayman leather jacket series Nex Brannan of Brutal Gear conjures images of James Dean and early Brando - the rebel longing for the open road and a life without responsibility.

New: Vintage/fantasy formalwear @ Eros Designs

merlot_tux.jpgAnd now for something completely different.  (If the voice you heard in your head just now belongs to John Cleese, you’re my kind of people.)  Several weeks back, I bought designer Keth Mommsen’s “Baron” formal suit at her shop, Eros Designs.  I loved it, wore it to a partnership celebration, got all kinds of compliments, and somehow managed not to review it.  I am attempting to correct that oversight here and now by featuring Keth’s new men’s tux, called “Merlot,” which I think I like even better!  This beautiful tux features shiny silk lapels, elaborate embroidery, and a gorgeous full-length formal jacket (moddable for length).  Here I am wearing the tab collar shirt with the included black-and-gold vest that matches the coat.  Other vest/pants sets are available separately in bronze, red, blue and ivory.  I’m not an expert on clothing styles throughout history, but to me this formal suit has a kind of fantasy-Edwardian feel–perhaps not entirely authentic to any particular period, but definitely a vintage vibe. New: Renown clothing by Jesseaitui Petion

renown_snapshot_001.jpgThe New Year marks a new venture for tattoo artist Jesseaitui Petion of Aitui Tattoo which has successfully been inking avis for several months now. This week Petion expanded his brand with the release of his apparel line, “Renown”, which reflects the gritty and articulate style he is well-known for. The line debuts with a collection of body-sculpted henleys, polos, tees, tanks and thermals in sombre, muted tones with some vivid graphic elements. The shirts are carved with Jesse’s distinct layered illustratives - some of which resurface the themes and motifs of his body art. His dimly-lit color schemes are contrasted with a series of slogans where Petion shows his humorous side: “Shakespeare hates your emo poems”, “Death: Our nation’s #1 killer”, and “For Rent” are just some of the inscriptions emblazoned across the pecs. His approach takes the novelty out of the tees and creates a visual ballad of pixelated textiles. (more…)

New: Sunglasses, tees @ Danny’s Untitled Fashions

elegant_swrils_sporty.jpgI must confess, Danny Nolan’s name is new to me–I don’t know, maybe I’ve been living under a rock.  Anyway, he’s got some awesome new stuff up at Danny’s Untitled Fashions, his shop at Random Industries.  I’m especially crazy about his new sunglasses, which have a great casual feel but definitely don’t look like you bought them off the rack at the drugstore, if you know what I mean.  In fact, you get the best of both worlds–they look expensive but aren’t.  If Audrey Hepburn had been a man, she would have worn them proudly.  These are Danny’s “Sporty” glasses, and the rounded lenses have kind of a windswept, streamlined feel.  The lenses are dark but not fully opaque, so your friends will still be able to see your eyes.  I love the the beautifully realistic gleam that that appears to be reflecting from the lenses–distinct but not overdone.  I’m also wearing Danny’s new “Elegant Swirls” tee.  Danny’s shirts have good cloth texture and rich, elaborate designs that wrap around to the back as well.  For some reason I’ve been finding a lot of great tees to cover lately, but don’t worry–I have some less casual designs coming soon, I promise.
